Atkins Low Carb Protein Bars
I love the Atkins bars. There are a ton of them, including some that are low carb. So, I was excited when I found out about Atkins’ new line of snacks. While Atkins’ bars are vegan (for now), most of the new protein bars are gluten-free, sugar-free, and only contain 3-4 grams of sugar in the 1/3 cup serving. They are available in three flavors: Chocolate earth-nut, earth-nut, and Cookies and Creme. I got the Chocolate groundnut Butter flavor. This slice really did taste like chocolate earth-nut butter. I like it better than the one that was in the box I bought, which was the earth-nut Butter Chocolate flavor. I’ve never liked chocolate earth-nut butter in my groundnut butter. I thought the chocolate peanut butter one was really good, but just not my favorite. I’m pretty sure it’s a variation of the Chocolate earth-nut Butter one from Sam’s Club. I’m really digging the earth-nut butter flavor, so I’d recommend this one if you’re a fan. I was surprised when I ate it because I thought that the photo on the front of the box, which looks nothing like the slice in the bag, had exaggerated the amount of earth-nut. The earth-nut flavor is really there. It was probably 1/4 of the chocolate portion of the stick. So, maybe it’s not even that great of a trade-off. I guess it depends on how you look at it. It’s not as good as the earth-nut Chocolate flavor, but still pretty tasty.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Considered a Low Carb Bar?
A low-carb bar is a type of food product that is designed to be low in carbohydrates, typically consumed as a convenient snack or meal replacement option. The exact definition of what is considered a low-carb bar can vary, but generally, it refers to a bar that contains a relatively small amount of carbohydrates compared to traditional bars or other carbohydrate-rich foods. In scientific terms, a low-carb bar typically contains less than 20 grams of net carbohydrates per serving.
Net carbohydrates are calculated by subtracting the grams of dietary fiber and sugar alcohols from the total carbohydrate content. These bars are often formulated with alternative sweeteners, such as erythritol or stevia, and use ingredients like nuts, seeds, and protein sources to provide satiety and nutrition. It is important to read the nutrition label and ingredient list of a specific low-carb bar to determine its exact carbohydrate content and ensure it aligns with individual dietary goals and preferences.
How Many Carbs Should Be in an Energy Bar?
The ideal number of carbohydrates in an energy bar can vary depending on several factors, including an individual's specific dietary needs, activity level, and fitness goals. However, as a general guideline, an energy bar designed to provide a quick source of fuel and sustenance during physical activity typically contains around 20 to 30 grams of carbohydrates. These carbohydrates are essential for replenishing glycogen stores and providing readily available energy for the muscles.
It's important to note that the carbohydrate content may vary based on the purpose and intended use of the energy bar. For endurance athletes engaging in prolonged, intense exercise, a higher carbohydrate content of around 30 grams or more may be beneficial to sustain performance. On the other hand, for individuals who are watching their carbohydrate intake or following a low-carb diet, there are also options available with lower carbohydrate content, typically ranging from 10 to 20 grams.
When selecting an energy bar, it's crucial to consider the type of carbohydrates it contains. Ideally, it should contain complex carbohydrates from whole food sources, such as oats, fruits, or nuts, which provide sustained energy release. Additionally, some energy bars may also contain added sugars or sugar alcohols, which can affect the total carbohydrate count and may have different metabolic effects. It's recommended to read the nutrition label and ingredient list carefully to make an informed choice based on personal preferences and dietary goals. Consulting with a registered dietitian or healthcare professional can also provide personalized recommendations based on individual needs and preferences.
Final Words on Best Keto-Friendly Protein Bars & Snacks
Here are some more details on our decision, based on the most frequently asked questions regarding protein bars, and why / if you need them in your life to reach our protein target for the day.
When to Eat Protein Low-Carb Bars Bars to Maximize Weight Loss and Muscle Gain?
The most common time of day to eat a snack would be before or after exercise.
When they are consumed pre-exercise (1-2 hours beforehand), they will help to boost energy, meaning that you can perform better and for longer during your exercise.
When they are consumed post-exercise, they will help to repair the muscles which were broken down during the exercise to help speed up recovery.
How Many Protein Bars Can I Eat a Day?
Like any other food or drink in life, snacks for weight loss goals (especially for weight loss) must be eaten in moderation and with a well-rounded low-carb or keto diet to give the most benefit to the consumer.
There are lots of factors contributing to any favorable/adverse side effects of excessive proteins.
These range from the ingredients used, to the calories within the bar itself and the serving size of the product.
Are Low-Carb Protein Bars Good for You?
Low-carb dieters should know that many bars claim to provide the same benefits as carbs. But just because it’s made from protein, it doesn’t mean the bar is healthy for you. Some low-carb bars are made from just protein. Most are also highly processed and have little to no fiber, healthy fats, or vitamins. Protein bars are a tasty and portable meal replacement, but are often laden with refined carbohydrates and other unhealthy ingredients,” says Leslie Bonci, R.D.N., a sports dietitian and owner of Fueling US, LLC. Here’s what to look for in a nutrition bar.
The protein content is important. Any bar that has more than 11 grams of protein per serving is considered a protein bar. Many bars are made with mainly processed soy and peanut protein. Artisan and natural bars tend to have higher fat and fiber content, making them better for you. Choose bars that are unsweetened, which means they are lower in calories. Avoid low-carb bars, which may contain sucralose (Splenda), aspartame, and other artificial sweeteners. Sometimes, low-carb bars are made from inferior ingredients such as inferior nuts and fruit or that taste great.
Is a Protein Bar Good for Weight Loss?
You’ve heard the rumors. You’ve seen the headlines. All roads lead to one thing — protein bars are the new diet. But should you choose to drink a shake or eat a bar? Why yes, if you’re trying to lose weight and are serious about losing weight! But before you buy, there are a few things to consider. Protein bars make great snacks for weight loss because they’re convenient, easy to pack, and low in fat and sugar. The protein in the bars also keeps you full longer, so you won’t be tempted to go back for seconds. However, there are two major drawbacks.
What Foods Are High in Protein and No Carbs?
A protein bar—or any fast food, really—is a must-have for anyone who’s trying to stick to a diet or just keeps popping their own granola bars. But not all bars are created equal. More and more bars are coming out with claims of high protein content, but a handful is really more protein-lite than they are actually full of protein.
It’s unclear exactly how many calories you’ll get if you choose a bar that boasts a lot of protein and low carbs. Generally speaking, most protein bars include around 12 grams of protein, but more is usually better, especially when it comes to bars that don’t have much else going for them. Here, find three types of protein-packed snacks that make for convenient, high-protein road snacks.
Are Protein Bars Good for You?
When consumed in moderation with a healthy diet, the addition of snacks into one’s life can prove to be an exceptionally wise health move when it comes to playing with your diet.
There are six primary factors to consider when looking at introducing low-carb snacks into your diet:
- Total Calories: when you are looking to reduce body fat, looking at your total daily calories is essential
- Total Carbohydrates: this will play a key role in making the recovery process post-exercise as quick as possible
- The Presence of Sugar Alcohols: some people will react badly to the digestion of these, so it’s best to avoid them
- Fat Content: from a calorie perspective, we want to keep this number as low as we can to remain with our calorie intake as best as possible
- Review Carb to Protein Ratio: we want to find a snack with a ratio of 2:1 between the two macronutrients
